6 Weekend Plans Ethicalized

Living for Friday? You’re definitely not alone. If a mini-break is what your heart needs, we’ve got the tips on how to make it fun AND ethical. Winning combo, right? Have fun, help the world, chill out. What could be better?

1- TAKE THE DOG FOR A WALK

If you’re like a lot of city dwellers your love of dogs has been hampered by your cramped living space. Work commitments, travel schedules and a busy life mean you just don’t seem to have the time necessary to dedicate to a four legged friend. Well, skip the expensive Saturday morning spin class and head over to your local SPCA. Sign up to be a dog walker and spend your morning taking loveable pets for walks. You’ll help socialized them and get them leash trained, you’ll get exercise and you’ll get your pooch fix in while you’re at it!

2- A DAY BY THE SEA

Looking forward to a relaxing afternoon by the ocean? Head out a little earlier than planned and help to clean up the shore. The Ocean Conservancy has all of the tools you’re going to need to plan an event to clean any body of water near you! With plastic found in approximately 62% of seabirds and a whopping 100% of sea turtles, the crisis is dire. Get a petit headstart on your tan, and earn that beer and nap by on the warm sand.

3- THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE

Organize a Swap Party! Clothes, books, kitchenware, household goods, furniture … whatever is taking up space in your home that you never touch anymore might just turn into your friend’s new favorite item! Stop perfectly useful things from going to the landfill, stop the purchase of a brand new item and save some serious cash. Consider this not just a fun evening with friends, but also a great way to spread your ethical, eco-friendly vibes to the people you love most.

4- DOUBLE UP YOUR DINNER

Check out our favorite meat-free/vegan dinner ideas, and then cook it twice. Enjoy your delicious dinner with someone you love, and then head out to take your doubled up portion to someone who could use a little pick-me-up. Perhaps an older relative that often seems lonely, the homeless man who hangs out at the same spot every day as you walk to work, or even a friend or neighbor who has been struggling with something recently.

5- DITCH THE BAR

Get your friends over for an Ethical Cocktail Challenge! Put your brains to use and set up a competition for the best ethical spins on classic cocktails – or maybe the best new ethical creation. We are loving the sustainably produced liquors  that are available these days, so it’s never been easier to drink ethically! Buy your mixers from local, organic producers and call it a double win – that Brazilian mango juice sounds lovely, but what’s the carbon footprint of a bottle to your doorstep?

6- GO SHOPPING

Yup, everyone’s favorite. Check out our favorite ethical brands and support the founders who are working tirelessly to create the change we all want to see in this world! Every time you ditch the mall for smaller, ethical producers you are sending a direct message to companies that you care about the environment and the people who produce your goods!

Here’s to an ethical and exciting weekend, friends!
